Visitors to LakeMacquarie Councils ChipFest17 pop-up festival could be forgiven for thinking their famous big prawn had been cross-breeding with a christmas display and shedding a few kilos. Local digital artist, Brian Hill, used the opportunity of the festival to pay homage to his childhood experiences of annual holidays at Lake Macquarie with the latest functional artwork from QuietRush. ZeitPrawn, a hybrid of cargotrike and luminous sculpture with carrying capacity for 4 kids, proved to be a curious crustacean, poking its head into each of the stalls to experience all that was on offer.
"We've been having fun with ZeitFish, getting out and about around Tuggerah Lake during and after our 2015 LumenMotion event, but it left us wondering how the giant luminous anglerfish would sustain itself during those night-time explorations. The natural prey of AnglerFish is deep sea shrimp, which proved to be a great match with our CargoTrikes. Don't be surprised if you glance out to a lakeside or foreshore view in the future and see a slow motion chase sequence being acted out between these two".
Designed as part of their SolarLife collaboration with sister company Laughing Mind, both sculptures are powered by sunshine + LEDs, using lightweight portable solar equipment from GoalZero, provided by Laughing Mind. The little Yeti400 solar generator is a perfect match for these sculptures, powering both smart-devices, projectors and the lighting looms that are used in these mobile artworks. There's enough power in one of those to also drop in a 12V carfridge for mobile refreshments - local festival goers might soon find themselves sipping on a cold beverage sourced from the belly of our ZeitFish.
The sculptures are designed for QuietRush JoyRides service for young and older riders, tying in nicely with our appointment as a CyclingWithoutAge affiliate ready to bring new, inclusive riding experiences to the Hunter and Central Coast. We're serious about Active Transport as an important part of Lifestyle Medicine and look forward to getting more eyes drawn away from screens in the dusk hours, or partnering with local eldercare facilities to help their residents relive their youth and feel the wind in their face.
